As simple as this may seem but it is still not uncommon to find people losing sleep over issues like jobs, package, status et al. Not that they are unimportant but one should understand that these are to facilitate your being happy and are nothing more than that. No one can be happy by just being rich or being at the most influential position. Trust me, had this been the case life would have been much simpler, just chase that ONE thing and there you go. As the most intelligent species God expects us to do more than chase for just ONE thing.
Recall the last time when you thought that if I would get this ONE thing I would need nothing more. Has it happened to you that you felt that this job, this girl or boy, this prize is THE thing I have been waiting for, and it would bring in all the happiness? Now as you have survived that, having got it or not got it; does it still continue to make any difference? If you have got that has it stopped you to crave for more and if you could not get it has the world ceased to exist?
These all may seem simple to you but despite the fact that we know it don’t we forget it at just the right time
. So next time before you get worried or tensed, just think if it would be worth all your agony six months or one year down the line. May be not… and we all will realise that the ultimate aim of human being is to be HAPPY.

Pursuit of something worthwhile in life is important to keep yourself going. Nobody can enjoy an aimless life (Dont quote Monks).
I think the answer lies in finding the right balance

Rightly said Shramit,as long as one can understand that it is just to find a balance, life is fine. But once you put all your weights on one side of the balance thats when life gets difficult

Very right. I must add that hapiness doesn’t drop or fall on you of its own. One has to understand, learn and practice to be happy. you follow it for say 3, 4 or 5 years and get back to me after that.
On the other hand, It is important to have some goal and there is nothing wrong in having a goal to secure say 20% increase in CTC per year. Happiness may not be felt if one has no goal except to be happy.
Last but not the least, the very thing to be happy is to continue to reduce one’s ego. The more one reduces his or her ego, happiness will continue to shower more and more.

gud one nihit…to add to what you said….I think happiness and achieving a goal or an aim that you always longed for are different things…as human beings we should understand this that…It is gud to have an end to journey toward; but it is the journey that matters in the end…and its the recall of this journey which yields us “happiness” ….friends made in this journey become friends of life time…thus the focus for happiness should be on the journey than the end..
